Serendipity in Schodack

Several  Schodack Democrats attended the Castleton Fire Company’s fund-raising breakfast on Sunday, as they usually do.  The early-risers found themselves in a sea of Republicans. But a couple who decided to sleep in and make it a “brunch” got a wonderful treat – Congressman Paul Tonko showed up to support the fire company.

After saying hello to everyone in the room, Congressman Tonko sat with Schodack Democratic Chair Elizabeth Gable, committee member Linda Underwood and lifelong Castleton Democrats Florence and Martin Ray.  Joining them a bit later was fire company member and staunch Democrat Kelly Travers-Main who, along with her daughter, flipped pancakes and French toast.

Congressman Tonko participated in a lively discussion with his supporters.

Later, even the most ardent Republicans wanted their picture taken with the Congressman.

Congressman Tonko is a great supporter of local Democratic committees. He rarely misses a fund-raiser or get-together. And he is one of the hardest working progressives in Congress.  Those of us who are represented by him are very lucky, indeed.

Not so lucky are those in Rensselaer County who are represented by Tea Party Congressman Chris Gibson …

Nassau and Schodack Dems host Bagel Breakfast

This in from Nassau Town Chairman, Mark Berger:

Second Bagel Breakfast
Saturday, March 5, 9:30 AM, Nassau Reformed Church

Co-sponsored by the Nassau and Schodack Democratic Committees

As We Salute Two Local (political) Heroes

Peter Grimm, a two-term Rensselaer County Legislator and a one-person band when it comes to starting vital community organization.  He will share some of the secrets of his success.

Linda Underwood, our dear Schodack friend. When Linda’s not out campaigning for good government, she’s still doing the good work. Linda will share her insights.

Like the first bagel breakfast, there will be time for discussions to take place.

Let’s get together, enjoy each other, grab a bagel, get a cup of coffee, and have some meaningful conversation. For five bucks, how can you go wrong?
ALL INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS ARE WELCOME!

Over the last few years, Nassau and Schodack Democrats have been working together on issues of common interest.  Joint fund-raisers and social get-togethers are a great way to bolster our enthusiasm and network with like-minded people. Especially in off-year elections, Democrats need to focus on local issues and helping each other make in-roads into predominantly Republican towns.

Joanne Yepsen gets strong support in Schodack/Nassau

Joanne Yepsen spoke to a packed house last night. Packed House Party, that is.

Joanne spent the better part of the evening speaking with her future constituents from the Schodack and Nassau areas at a party sponsored by the Schdoack and Nassau Democratic Committees. The crowd was enthusiastic and happy to hear that the future senator for the 43rd will be a full-time representative for the people.

The event was a great showing of solidarity for both town democratic organizations. They share so many of the same issues - how to retain their rural flavor while off-setting property taxes with good, thoughtful commercial projects. And of course Dewey Loeffel affects both towns, which boarder on the horribly contaminated Nassau Lake.

Today is the Fall Festival at Schodack Island Park. Candidates Scott Murphy and Joanne Yepsen will be there along with Schodack Town Board candidate Linda Underwood.

Schodack Democrats put in a great showing for the Dem team

Schodack Democrats put in a great deal of effort staffing a table at the Goold Orchards Harvest Festival over the Columbus Day weekend. The group handed out campaign material, balloons and generally enjoyed the beautiful weather while making the case for Democratic candidates.

Candidates also showed up to greet festival-goers. On hand were Congressman Paul Tonko and Joanne Yepsen.
